A percentage of drivers like to gamble on driving without insurance because they are “only driving a short distance” or “just going to work and back without an accident.” This mentality can cost you thousands in the end. If a driver has let their insurance coverage lapse or default, you will have to pay that premium again when you look to restart your coverage with any company. It is a more reliable option to keep your payments up to date or even set up an autopay schedule to ensure your policy does not default. In a majority of states, it is illegal to drive without a license and can face hefty fines or even loss of driving privileges.

Many drivers have been in an accident before, and everyone knows the routine of seeing the other party’s license and insurance to verify they are covered. However, if a driver happens to cause an accident without any insurance, then they can face serious consequences. A driver will be fully responsible for any vehicle damage or bodily injuries in full, without the protection of an insurance company.

Some states require insurance proof, a driver will also need to have liability insurance included in their policy. Liability insurance helps protect a driver if they make a mistake during an accident or even cause the accident themselves. This covers them if they injure another driver in an accident or damage property due to the result of that accident. When it comes to choosing liability coverage, there are several different options a person can choose from.

  • Higher coverage limits covers large financial consequences but also require higher premiums paid by individual

  • Lower coverage limits are more affordable and require less premium paid by individual; however, if the damage costs exceed your coverage limit, that person is solely responsible for the remainder

Insurance policies are there to help protect not only the driver but everyone around them as well. Find a policy that makes sense and never be on the road without insurance!
